Join us to explore pacifist activism

AWE blockade 2016

Pacifism is an active alternative to both violence and passivity. It involves nonviolent resistance to war, militarism and other injustices. It means standing up to dominant values and speaking out for a better way.

You will have the chance to learn from speakers and other participants, including: -

Speakers include Dan Woodhouse, a pacifist facing trial for attempting to disarm a warplane bound for Saudi Arabia.

Others speakers include Chris Henderson on promoting pacifism online and Rhianna Louise on challenging militarism in education.

This gathering is a chance to learn from each other, sharing varied experiences and finding ways to campaign effectively in our own lives and communities and as a union of pacifists.

Whether you're a long-standing campaigner, new to the whole thing or even unsure whether pacifism is for you, come along to meet others and explore.

What are you looking forward to about Pacifist, Not Passive?

"The quickest way for an activist to burn out is isolation. So I’m really looking forward to PPU’s ‘Pacifist not Passive’ conference, as a chance to meet other passionate peace makers. To chat, encourage and be encouraged. I’m also honoured to be asked to talk at such an event and hope to inspire but also to show how activism doesn’t take superheroes, just normal people who are willing."

- Dan Woodhouse

"Last year I went to the PPU conference for the first time and really enjoyed it. I just went along to hear the speakers but it turned out that everyone was really friendly and the talks and discussion really interesting. I got involved in campaigning with the PPU very soon afterwards. I'm looking forward to this year's conference too!"
